Delhi is still cheapest among 4 metro cities

New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government has increased Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel in Delhi attracting ire of the people. This was followed by a reduction of petrol and diesel prices across India by Rs 2 a litre as oil prices over the past forthnight fell globally.

What this means is that even as fuel prices across India fell by Rs 2 to a litre, consumers in Delhi actually woke up to a hike of 28 paise for petrol and a slight reduction in diesel prices.

This is a result of the Kejriwal government increasing VAT on petrol by Rs 2.78 per litre and on diesel by Rs 1.83 per litre.

Petrol prices, in Delhi, as a result now cost Rs 66.9 per litre as against Rs 66.62 a day earlier.

Petrol in other three metros, namely' Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai cost Rs 71.97 per litre, 71.57 per litre and Rs 67.29 per litre, respectively.

What this means is that even after a drop of Rs 2 per litre in petrol costs across India and Delhi actually hiking petrol costs, the fuel in Delhi is still the cheapest among the four metros.

Mumbai continues to pay most for a litre of petrol followed by Kolkata, Chennai and Delhi.
